Long-line stays were worn throughout the Regency era, alongside the revolutionary short stays. They provide a flattering silhouette beneath the streamlined, columnar silhouette of the early 1800's. They may take more getting used to than short stays (see my other listing), but if you’re a seasoned corset wearer then they’ll be no trouble at all.

Every corset is handmade by me. The ‘standard’ sizes are available in sizes 6-20 and the measurements for these can be found on the last slide. It’s better if you’re at least 5cm bigger than every measurement, as you cannot tighten a loose corset! Also check the nape-to-waist measurement in comparison to your own, as this is a long corset the length is an important factor.

However, I would nearly always recommend the custom size if you would like corset that’s as comfortable as it can be, and that you will wear for many years to come! I will flat-draft the pattern to your specific measurements to ensure it fits well. After your purchase I will send you a list of measurements that I will require, along with some pages to assist you with measuring yourself correctly.

History:

The Regency era was a transitory period, lasting for only a brief amount of time (roughly ten years) wherein the prevailing fashion radically rebelled against the stiff, overly-formal dress of the previous decades. Empire-waisted dresses with low, scooped necklines required a new style of corset, and there were two options: long-line stays and short stays. Long-line stays covered the whole torso with gussets at the bust and hips to give the corset its shape. A busk at the centre front streamlined the figure and straps kept the corset (and bust) in the right place.
